Palo Duro remained undefeated in District 3-5A Tuesday night using a 21-point third quarter to run past Canyon, 63-50, at the Palo Duro Activity Center.

The Dons moved to 19-3 on the season and 6-0 in district.

Canyon dropped to 8-12 and 3-3.

The game was still in doubt at halftime, with Palo Duro ahead 29-23.

Then the Dons exploded for a trio of 3-pointers in the third and used their pressure defense to hold Canyon to five points and to hold a 48-28 lead entering the final quarter.

Palo Duro senior guard Ja’Qalyn Gilbreath led all scorers with 16 points, while senior guard Amarie White added 14.

Canyon was led by senior guard Adam Alexander with 12 points, while junior forward Dayne Douglass chipped in 10 points.

Canyon returns to action Friday by hosting Caprock, while Palo Duro can clinch a playoff berth on Friday when it hosts Randall.
