She’s only a junior, but Palo Duro’s Kityana Diaz has enough experience to rival most girls players in the Panhandle. Diaz has started for the Lady Dons from the time she stepped on campus as a freshman, and she’s shown that she belongs with the upperclassmen from the beginning.
Last year as a sophomore, Diaz emerged as Palo Duro’s leading scorer with 12.7 points a game and was a first-team All-District 3-5A selection.
This season, Diaz has picked up her game. She’s averaging 15.3 points a game for the season and 21.3 points a game in district play, as she’s a big reason the Lady Dons are tied for third in the district and can take sole possession of the spot by beating Dumas tonight.
Diaz has been thinking about this season all along, but she also has her eye on the future after she finishes playing for the Lady Dons next season.
“It’s been important to me because we’ve got to start to prepare if we’re going to make the playoffs,” Diaz said. “For scholarships, they say your junior year is the year to get looked at so this is big for me.”
